My D2:LOD resurgence

When Diablo 2 came out, I played it for quite some time. But, finally quit back in 2006 or 2007 after taking a break that was just longer than 3 months, and coming back to find my level 90 Sorceress had been deleted. GAR. So, I gave up and went about my life.

Then, when I got on the Starcraft 2 beta, a friend and I started playing D2 again as “relief” from SC2. I’m back up to level 71 at this point after playing for a couple months on off, and am now in Hell Difficulty. But, I’m playing more now as I get back into the Magic Find habit. Since I played, Nightmare and Hell have become a lot more difficult. So, here, I think I’m going to detail however many MF (Magic Find) runs I can do on NM Mephisto. I’ll try to do as many as I can before I go crazy.

My MF right now is is 185%. Not high by any means, but it doesn’t need to be super high for Mephisto runs.

iCal Oddity

A week back, I tried to convert my local account to a Portable Home Directory that synced to the server. The experiment was partially successful, but partially not. So, I reverted back. This process basically meant that I had to delete my local account, and create a new one. This is the key piece to my problem that I’ll get to in a bit.

So basically, once I’d reverted, most things worked. I had some oddities with keychains that I fixed by randomly trying things until it worked. The weirder issue was with iCal.

In iCal, I could add events, and move events, but I couldn’t delete ANYTHING. I’d delete an account from iCal (like my google calendar account), it would go away for about 10 seconds, then come back. If I tried to move an event, it would show up in the new place, but the place where it used to be would still be there (so basically, it would duplicate). I’d delete the duplicate, it would go away for a few moments, then come back. I couldn’t figure it out.

Optimize Prime

Using the wonder that is a personal website, I’m spending today working on optimizing page load times on my site. I’m already ran my theme images through smush.it, and am now working on hosting static files on a non-cookied domain.

Better rewrite code: here dealing with better mod_rewrite code for a wordpress permalink site, is, amazing.

It significantly sped up this site, and I’m planning to implement it on a couple other sites tomorrow at work.

Also of note, I do a fair amount of post revisions, which added up to about 600 or so revisions in wordpress. That can really slow down a site. So, I ran a nice plugin (though the “copy” on the wordpress site is HORRIBLE) called Delete-Revision that really helped speed up things (in addition to the above).

Update: So, I got my site up to an “A” score (90 points) on YSlow. The main problems were that for some reason, js files weren’t being compressed, I didn’t have ETags configured, and I needed to get Expires Headers working. They are now working. When I started, my score was in the 70’s. As for Google PageSpeed, I’m at a 95/100. For the longest time, I couldn’t get cookies to not cross domains. Turns out, hidden in the google docks here, I had to set the setDomainName to “None” to disable cross subdomain tracking. Since I got that fixed, google is bitching about parallelizing downloads. So, I’ll have to work on that a bit more. Might set up a rewritemap to randomly rewrite requests to static content to various aliases of my static subdomain… we’ll have to see if this works. =/
