Energy (electricity vs. gas)

It’s been a while since I posted much of an energy post (other than my TED anniversary post on the 1st of April (here)). So, here we go.

First, for those that don’t know, a heat pump is just what it sounds like. It “pumps” or takes heat from inside (cooling) or outside (heating) and moves it to the other side. Basically, it’s an air conditioner that can “reverse”. See wiki page. When people just say “heat pump” they generally mean an air source heat pump (outside air is the source, or sink/dump for the heat). There are also “ground loop” heat pumps that use the ground as the source or sink/dump. Ground loop heat pumps are more efficient than air source ones, but they are much more expensive, and require more room to install (there are lines that run in the ground, either horizontally or vertically, which takes space/money to install). In my case, I have an air source heat pump.

My D2:LOD resurgence

When Diablo 2 came out, I played it for quite some time. But, finally quit back in 2006 or 2007 after taking a break that was just longer than 3 months, and coming back to find my level 90 Sorceress had been deleted. GAR. So, I gave up and went about my life.

Then, when I got on the Starcraft 2 beta, a friend and I started playing D2 again as “relief” from SC2. I’m back up to level 71 at this point after playing for a couple months on off, and am now in Hell Difficulty. But, I’m playing more now as I get back into the Magic Find habit. Since I played, Nightmare and Hell have become a lot more difficult. So, here, I think I’m going to detail however many MF (Magic Find) runs I can do on NM Mephisto. I’ll try to do as many as I can before I go crazy.

My MF right now is is 185%. Not high by any means, but it doesn’t need to be super high for Mephisto runs.

iCal Oddity

A week back, I tried to convert my local account to a Portable Home Directory that synced to the server. The experiment was partially successful, but partially not. So, I reverted back. This process basically meant that I had to delete my local account, and create a new one. This is the key piece to my problem that I’ll get to in a bit.

So basically, once I’d reverted, most things worked. I had some oddities with keychains that I fixed by randomly trying things until it worked. The weirder issue was with iCal.

In iCal, I could add events, and move events, but I couldn’t delete ANYTHING. I’d delete an account from iCal (like my google calendar account), it would go away for about 10 seconds, then come back. If I tried to move an event, it would show up in the new place, but the place where it used to be would still be there (so basically, it would duplicate). I’d delete the duplicate, it would go away for a few moments, then come back. I couldn’t figure it out.
